Making URLs clickable in Microsoft Office Communicator 2007

By default URLs are not clickable in Communicator. However you can apply the following registry hack to make them clickable and launch them in your default browser.

Steps are as follows:
1. Open registry editor and go to the following registry entry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Communicator

2. Add the following key to above mentioned entry
EnableURL (Type:DWORD), value can be either 0 (URL will appear as plain text) or 1 (makes URL clickable)

Now close the registry editor and restart Microsoft Office Communicator 2007, URLs should now be clickable. Administrators can control values of this feature via group policy settings.

The feature also needs to be enabled on the Front End OCS servers as well.

Windows Seven!

I finally got my hands on the bits for Windows 7 today and am actually typing this on a Windows 7 machine.  And no, the world didn’t go into armageddon and my laptop didn’t melt.  It’s actually running pretty good on a Pentium M laptop with only 512 MB of memory.  Would have 1GB, but I found out I had a bad chip in this puppy after a few BSOD’s while installing.  I knew that though because it had started to act up in Vista anyway.

I haven’t had a chance to really play with any of the new features yet, but I will say that Windows Update and connecting to my wireless network was a snap.  I will say this however for all of you Vista haters out there.  It looks, feels and smells just like Windows Vista so get used to it.  There are a lot of things that were fixed in Windows 7 (UAC hasn’t bugged me yet, interestingly enough).  I like what I see so far.

Thanks to Aaron Tiensivu for inspiring me to take a chance on Windows 7.  I usually wait for at least a beta or Release Candidate to try an OS, but his last post did it for me.

2 Down, One to Go

2 exams down and one more to go until I achieve the MCITP: Enterprise Messaging certification.  I finally ventured down to Appleton to take the MCTS: Exchange 2007 exam and passed with 1000.  Not sure how I pulled that off, but I have been studying pretty hard for that one.

Feeling either confident or cocky (not sure which one), I decided to save a trip and sit the first of the MCITP exams for Exchange as well.  Well, remind me not to do that before at least cracking open a book to at least go over what was on the exam.  I passed, but barely.  So next Wednesday I’ll sit the last exam and I’ll get to add another credential to my portfolio.

SQL 2008 next (and this one isn’t voluntary…I’m not a fan of SQL)

64bit IPSEC VPN Client!

I took the dive into 64bit computing today by installing Vista Ultimate x64 onto my work laptop.  It was then I remembered that the Cisco VPN client wasn’t supported on a 64bit OS.  After some digging and Googling, I found the NCP Secure Entry Client.  After a weird install process (I was installing VMWare Workstation at the same time which isn’t recommended, but I was in a hurry), it worked!  I was able to import the pcf files used by the Cisco VPN Client and connect to a customer’s network!  Sweet!

It’s not free though, you’ll have to cough up $144, but it looks to be well worth it if you want to run 64bit Windows.

On an unrelated note, wish me luck on the 70-236 Exchange 2007 exam on Friday.  I think I’ll just go ahead and sit the rest of the Exchange exams next week to complete the MCITP: Enterprise Messaging certification too. :)

New design!

Well, new template anyway.  I don’t have the time, nor creative juices to do a scratch design anymore, so I just use the templates I find out on the internet.  This site is about my words, not my design anyway.  :)

MMA no more

I guess I could take “Mixed Martial Artist” off of my “About Me” tag.  I haven’t done anything MMA related in over 9 months now.  I really think about going back to Great White Martial Arts and continuing Brazilian Jiu-JItsu training with Garrett Erickson, but I think it’s time to realize I’m getting old.  My body still hurts from all of the stupid things I did trying to make it in pro wrestling.  Like Mick Foley, I’m second guessing some of those table spots and flying ranas over the top rope and onto the floor.

I’m still a fan though.  Oh hell yeah.  Looking forward to next Saturday when my boy Brock Lesnar takes on Randy Couture at UFC 90.  That’s going to be a tough one for me to watch.  I met Brock back when I lived in MN and supported his decision to go to WWE.  And I’m a long time Randy Couture fan.
