Matt Serra suffered a herniated disc in his back during training for his upcoming fight with fellow Ultimate Fighter coach Matt “Mr Country Breakfast” Hughes. Let me be the first to say I’m pissed! I was actually looking forward to Matt Serra showing the world he belonged as the WW champ in the UFC and to finally shut Hughes up. I dunno if it’s clever editing by the folks at Spike, but Hughes looks like an even bigger asshole then when he was the Season 2 coach.
I hear rumors of a interim title match between my boy GSP (Georges St. Pierre) and Hughes for the title with Serra getting a guaranteed title shot when he returns. I’d buy it definitely just to see GSP get his belt back, but it’d be kind of hollow since I was look more forward to a Serra vs GSP rematch with Hughes completely out of the picture and retired.
I will say this, there may have been better fights in the UFC, but my favorite fight has always been Hughes vs GSP II last year. I never yelled at my TV so much in excitement as I did for that fight. Even with a boring ass Monson vs Silvia fight on the undercard that damn near put me to sleep, I was happy to write Dana White the $39.95 check for the PPV.
Sting to WWE?
Am I reading between the lines correctly? Could Sting be headed to WWE? My guess he’s getting the Shawn Michaels TV only schedule. That’s not going to help the house show business. I feel sorry for the undercard boys who hold those shows up every night like CM Punk, Kennedy and Edge. Bigger houses mean bigger paychecks for those guys.
Speaking WWE, I gotta give some props to Hornswaggle….yes I said Hornswaggle. I made a big mistake two years ago, and I just realized it. Some guy who was staring a promotion (his name escapes me now), was running a show in Stevens Point at Skipps Bowl. He asked if I wanted to come out and maybe he could find a spot on the show for me. When I got there he barely spoke to me and didn’t bother to introduce me to any of the boys. None of them knew who I was so it seemed pointless for me to introduce myself. I hung around and watched them ALL jump around in the ring. Most of them looked like backyarders who didn’t belong near a ring in front of a crowd yet. I did notice that a midget and a very big guy were the only ones who looked like they were going through a match. That midget is now Hornswaggle. And I have to admit I’m shocked he got a spot with WWE. He’s done really well for himself there and I have to give it to him. I’m throughly entertained by him. He’s got a good spot with the E. Anyway, I left after about 20 minutes of sitting there waiting to talk to someone. I should have stayed and watched him work. Maybe the other guys weren’t so bad either. Well, I won’t go THAT far.
I took a week of vacation this week. Damn it’s hard not to think about or do any work….
